  6. What's all this then?

  8. PowerSpaceTabsPlus (PSTP) is a simple program that removes "white space" from
  9. text files and replaces it with a tab. "White space" is defined by PSTP as two
  10. or more consecutive spaces. Why would you want to do this? There are several
  11. applications. If you have information stored in a text file separated by spaces,
  12. and you want to import it into a database, like FileMaker Pro, you can use
  13. PSTP to automatically set the tabs so you don't have to type the whole thing
  14. into the database.

  17. How does it work?

  19. It's quite simple really. Just drag the text file or files that you want tab'd
  20. onto the PSTP icon. After showing an about box, the program will prompt you for
  21. where to save each individual file. The file's original name will be offered as
  22. a default. You can drag as many files as you want onto the icon, but keep memory
  23. in mind. In general, PSTP should have about twice the amount of memory of the 
  24. file you're dragging on it. The default of 1 meg should be enough for most uses.

  27. What's new in version 1.0.1?
  28.  
  29. This version fixes a small bug that was present in version 1.0. The bug only
  30. shows up in files containing many spaces. If the user choses to save the tabulated
  31. file with the same name as the original, PSTP would keep part of the old file at
  32. the end. Version 1.0.1 fixes this bug. It is the only change.

  35. What's this about using PSTP as a FirstClass BBS utility?
  36.  
  37. PSTP was originally written to help out Graham Fennie, the admin of the FirstClass
  38. BBS "Tyrell, Inc." (716-248-9744). FC allows the sysop to save the information 
  39. about who has uploaded files to the board into a text file. However, because of
  40. the format of the file, it can not be imported directly into FileMaker Pro.
  41. Importing the file would allow the sysop to keep accurate records of how much
  42. each user has uploaded, posted, etc. For more information on how to use PSTP with
  43. FirstClass, look at the "FC README" file in the "FirstClass tool" folder.

  46. Can I give this to other people?

  48. Sure! PowerSpaceTabsPlus can be distributed free of charge on public bulletin
  49. boards, FTP sites, and CD-ROMS as long as all the documentation and the 
  50. complete package it kept intact. If you're going to put PSTP on a CD-ROM, I
  51. request that you first notify me so that I can brag about it. Users are free
  52. to use PowerSpaceTabsPlus for no charge. However, if you find this program
  53. useful, or if you run a commercial service that uses PSTP to keep records,

  60. I don't think this is very much to ask. PSTP is a simple program, but it can
  61. be very useful. It can save hours of time if you normally maintain a database
  62. by typing things in manually. When you register PSTP, you will receive future
  63. updates at no charge, a personalized copy of the current version, and the 
  64. personal satisfaction of registering shareware.
